Nuit blanche à Montréal at the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal

Saturday, March 2, 2013 from 6 p.m. to 3 a.m.

MONTREAL, Feb. 12, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - This coming March 2, for the tenth anniversary of Nuit blanche, the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal (MAC) is offering a wide range of activities: four exhibitions, tours and art workshops for La Petite Nuit blanche, tastings of cocktails and treats, and an evening that will hop to the beat of Danses à 10 taking visitors on a journey all the way from Argentina to Africa and back, via the Caribbean and Brazil.

This year, the MAC has called on music director and percussionist Luc Boivin (Belle et Bum and l'École de Percussions Métissage Luc Boivin) to put together a program worthy of this tenth anniversary, with artists that will heat up the joint as they show us their impressive moves. Percussionists will pound out the beat to which dancers will perform highly entertaining Danses à 10. To the sound of djembes, cajons, darbukas and other, invented percussion instruments, you'll be transported to a world of cross-cultural experience and high spirits.

Festival goers can also enjoy two brand-new exhibitions and a multimedia work, all newly unveiled at the MAC. Laurent Grasso. Uraniborg, the product of a joint initiative by the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal and the Jeu de Paume gallery in Paris, is the artist's first major exhibition in Québec or anywhere in Canada, and the largest ever held in North America. Faux Indices by Lynne Cohen features forty works by this internationally renowned photographer, most of them recently produced. And in our continuing Projections series, Jonathas de Andrade's film 4 000 Disparos is the inaugural Canadian presentation of the work of this Brazilian artist. Finally, the MAC is also presenting A Matter of Abstraction, a permanent exhibition showcasing 110 works from the Musée collection that form a priceless public heritage.

La Petite Nuit blanche

Because the Nuit also belongs to early birds, the MAC is offering families, and everyone else, a Petite Nuit blanche from 6 to 9 p.m. On the program: visits to the exhibitions, with educators from the Musée team on hand in the galleries; art workshops; stars of the metro, presented by the STM, who will add atmosphere to the evening; and tastings of cocktails (in alcoholic and non-alcoholic versions) and other treats. The art workshop (age four and up), titled Star-Studded, invites participants to draw inspiration from Laurent Grasso's work called 1610 III to create a constellation of stars that will light up the museum. Length: 1 hour.

Throughout the Nuit

To keep the night owls happy, Nuit blanche will run at the MAC until 3 in the morning. Activities scheduled: visits to the exhibitions; educators on hand in the galleries; Danses à 10 from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.; tastings of cocktails and other treats; and illumination of the building all night long, in partnership with the Quartier des Spectacles. Enough to make you forget all about the cold!

The Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal is located at 185, rue Sainte-Catherine Ouest, Montréal, QC, H2X 3X5 - Place-des-Arts metro.
