WSIB Announces New Board Member Appointment

TORONTO, May 16 /CNW/ - The Honourable Steven W. Mahoney, Chair of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB), today announced the Order in Council appointment of Brendan Calder as the newest member of the WSIB's Board of Directors.

"I am very happy to welcome Mr. Calder to the Board and I look forward to working with him to serve Ontario's workers and employers," says Mahoney. "With a strong small business background, he brings a unique perspective to the Board and the WSIB as an organization, understanding first-hand the needs and concerns of this key group of employers that comprises 80% of our customers."

Mr. Calder is currently an Adjunct Professor of Strategic Management and Entrepreneur in Residence at the Rotman School of Management. Previously, he served as Chairman, President and CEO with CIBC Mortgages from 1996 to 2000. Mr. Calder was also President and Director of FirstLine Trust Company and a founder and Director of Direct Trust.

Representing a diverse cross-section of stakeholder interests, the Board is well-equipped to help lead the WSIB through the challenges the system currently faces.

  • Mr. P. Morgan McCague*, former Senior Vice-President, Asset Mix and Risk, Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan, current directorships with GCAN Insurance Company, First Coverage and Excel Funds
  • Ms. Marlene McGrath, Vice President Human Resources, International Operations, 3M Canada Company
  • Ms. Lea M. Ray, Vice President of Corporate Finance for Warner Bros. Entertainment Canada Inc. a division of Time Warner
  • Ms. Sari Sairanen*, National Health & Safety Director, CAW-Canada

*Ms. Sairanen and Mr. McCague have recently been reappointed for three year terms.
