Outstanding Charitable Event Raises $2M for Groundbreaking Medical
TORONTO, Nov. 3, 2011 /CNW/ - The 7th annual Grand Cru Culinary Wine Festival, Toronto's premier annual wine
and food event took place October 27th - 29th. Over 2000 guests attended the Halpern Portfolio Wine Tasting and 740
guests attended the sold out Grand Cru Live Auction at the Allstream
Centre. 27 exclusive luxury homes opened their doors and participated
in the private Wine and Dine Experience on Saturday night.
This year's event raised an impressive $2M for the groundbreaking
medical research at Toronto General and Toronto Western Hospitals
including the McEwen Centre for Regenerative Medicine, the Arthritis
Program and the Diabetes Centre.
Grand Cru Festival Co-Chairs Todd Halpern and Cheryl McEwen walked the
red carpet at the wine tasting and live auction event at the Allstream
Centre on Thursday. The star studded red carpet included 24 star Kiefer
Sutherland, actress Lisa Ray (Water), etalk host Ben Mulroney, Dave
Salmoni (Host of Expedition Impossible) and musical guest Justin
Nozuka. Grand Cru guests were greeted by Limba, the Asian elephant, and
Robbie, the Bengal tiger from the Bowmanville Zoo.
Halpern is extremely proud of the $10.2M that Grand Cru has raised for
various key hospital programs since its inception in 2005. "This event
continues to build on the success of previous years. We are thrilled
it has become a signature event for University Health Network
attracting new sponsors, supporters and international participants,"
said Todd Halpern, Event Founder and Co-Chair.
The remarkable three day event featured over 31 top chefs and 70 wine
estates, including renowned international chefs Michael White, Daniel
Boulud and Kimio Nonaga, joining Canadian culinary luminaries such as
Jamie Kennedy, Mark McEwan and David Hawkesworth.
"Once again we are absolutely delighted with the support for Grand Cru,"
said Tennys Hanson, President & CEO of Toronto General and Western
Hospital Foundation. "This event brings together the very best of
several worlds and truly demonstrates how collaboration and commitment
can inspire the power of philanthropy to support leadership, innovation
and discovery at our hospitals."
