Weight Watchers Members, Online Subscribers Turning Weight Loss Into
Gain for Food Banks Canada
OAKVILLE, ON, Sept. 21, 2011 /CNW/ - Weight Watchers Canada today
announced that its members and online subscribers can participate in
the Lose For Good campaign, an effort that helps to feed Canadians who
As Weight Watchers members and online subscribers shed pounds, between
now and October 22, Weight Watchers will make a donation and provide
other benefits valued at up to $50,000 to Food Banks Canada.
Individual members will also be able to donate pounds of food, symbolic
of their weight loss, to food drives at participating Weight Watchers
locations. The campaign helps make their own weight loss efforts even
more meaningful by helping Canadian food banks help those in need.
"A lack of access to healthy food can be a contributing factor to
obesity," says Paul Schiffner, General Manager, Weight Watchers Canada.
"Weight Watchers is working with our members and online subscribers to
leverage their weight loss efforts for a very important cause."
With close to 900,000 Canadians relying on food banks every month
(according to Food Banks Canada's 2010 HungerCount report), the need to
address the hunger problem has never been greater.
"The number of Canadians turning to food banks has increased 9 per cent
over last year," says Katharine Schmidt, Executive Director, Food Banks
Canada. "The food donations made through Lose For Good help our network
of local food banks support the communities in which they operate."
The campaign runs until October 22, 2011. Food donations can be made at
participating Weight Watchers locations across Canada. Visit www.weightwatchers.ca/loseforgood for further information.
