Union welcomes offshore helicopter safety report

ST JOHN'S, Feb. 10 /CNW/ - The Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada welcomes the recommendations from the Transportation Safety Board on the crash of Cougar Helicopters Flight 491, released yesterday.

"We expect Transport Canada to implement these recommendations as soon as possible, in addition to those from Commissioner Robert Wells' report, released last November and commissioned by the Offshore Petroleum Board," said CEP Atlantic Regional Vice-President Chuck Shewfelt.

CEP represents oil workers on the Hibernia and Terra Nova offshore oil platforms.

"Our union is committed to working with the regulators, the operators and the government to ensure that there are no more safety tragedies in the offshore," said Shewfelt.
