Toyota Canada Inc. reports January 2011 sales

Company celebrates 4,000,000th vehicle sold in Canada - a Canadian-built Toyota Matrix

TORONTO, Feb. 1 /CNW/ - Toyota Canada Inc. (TCI) today reported sales of 9,051 Toyota, Lexus and Scion cars, trucks and SUVs in January 2011, down 1.6% from a year earlier. Highlights for the month include a 2.8% increase in car sales, led by accelerating demand for Toyota's core, Canadian-built models, the new 2011 Toyota Corolla and Toyota Matrix. Also, with the addition of Scion, January 2011 Toyota sales have surpassed sales for the same period last year.

Toyota also marked a significant milestone after more than four decades of operation in Canada - the sale of its four millionth vehicle. This comes on the heels of Toyota's Canadian manufacturing operations, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada, Inc. (TMMC), recording the milestone production of their four millionth vehicle last September.

"A few months ago, TMMC marked the production of its four millionth vehicle. This, along with the sale of our fourth millionth vehicle in Canada, are important milestones for both our sales and manufacturing organizations - and a proud moment for Toyota in our 46th year in Canada," said Yoichi Tomihara, President of Toyota Canada Inc. "For many years we have been able to say that we annually produce more vehicles in Canada than we sell here - that we are a net exporter of vehicles. We can now say that across our entire history we have built more vehicles in Canada than we have sold here."

"We're pleased to mark the milestone of our four millionth vehicle sale in Canada," said Warren Orton, Director at Toyota Canada Inc. "A testament to the loyalty of our customers, the vehicle - a Toyota Matrix - was built at TMMC in Cambridge, Ontario, just an hour away from its new owner, a long-time Toyota customer in London, Ontario."
