MONTREAL, Feb. 3 /CNW/ - The Montreal chapter of The Turnaround
Management Association (TMA) will award its first "Lifetime Achievement
Award" to McMillan LLP lawyers Max Mendelsohn and the Hon. Yoine
Goldstein who have helped to shape Montreal's restructuring and
insolvency practice over the years.
The awards will be presented on February 7, 2011 at noon at the Mount
Stephen Club (1440 Drummond Street), Montreal.
This is the TMA's first awards event honoring the achievements of
individual restructuring and insolvency practitioners in Montreal.
"Max Mendelsohn and Yoine Goldstein are very deserving award recipients
having made significant contributions in our community. The Board of
the Montreal chapter believes it is important to recognize their
outstanding achievements," said Denis Hamel, Partner with Deloitte and
TMA Montreal chapter president.
This event is the first of what is expected to be an annual awards
ceremony recognizing key people and their accomplishments. It is part
of the TMA's effort to promote the creative and beneficial position of
restructuring professionals in Montreal's economy.
About the winners
Max Mendelsohn is a leader of the corporate restructuring and insolvency group at
McMillan LLP where his practice focuses on advising financial
institutions, trustees and reorganizing enterprises. He also frequently
acts as a mediator and arbitrator in commercial disputes, sits on the
Board of Directors of several corporations, and advises commercial
enterprises. In his many years of practice, Max has developed a
deserved reputation as a pragmatic dealmaker in Montreal's turnaround
and restructuring market, as well as across Canada. He has served as
mentor to many of the current members of the Montreal TMA chapter, and
indeed to countless professionals in the field.
Yoine Goldstein is Senior Counsel at McMillan LLP and advises clients in the
turnaround, restructuring and litigation areas of practice. The
Honourable Yoine Goldstein was appointed to the Senate of Canada in
August 2005 where he served for four years. He was elected Fellow to
both the American College of Trial Lawyers and the American College of
Bankruptcy. Over the span of a career in both private legal practice
and as an active leader in public life, Yoine has garnered respect as a
strong advocate and one of the leading bankruptcy and restructuring
lawyers of his generation. He has been very active on the Canadian
Jewish Congress and the Combined Jewish Appeal as well as with a number
of charitable and human rights organizations.
