~ Canada's Greatest Toy Store launches online contest to find its next
young toy aficionado ~
TORONTO, May 16 /CNW/ - As kids across the country start to think about
a cool summer job, there will be one lucky enough to become the Chief
Play Officer (CPO) of Canada's Greatest Toy Store, Toys"R"Us. For the future Toys"R"Us, Canada Chief Play Officer, "play" will be the
job as he or she provides the inside scoop to parents on the hottest
trends in toys and gaming.
Daniel Wilson, hailing from Uxbridge, Ontario, and Laurie-Kim Gosselin
from Mascouche, Quebec were hired as the first ever Chief Play Officers
in 2009. However, at the ripe old age of 15, the time has come time for
Daniel and Laurie-Kim to retire and give their title to one lucky
Canadian kid. Before Wilson officially retires, he is helping to find
his replacement for what many have referred to as a "dream job."
"Being Toys"R"Us, Canada's Chief Play Officer really is the best job in
the world," said Wilson. "I got to play with all the latest and
greatest toys and then tell people about them - what kid wouldn't love
that? This job has given me opportunities I could only dream of and
memories I will never forget."
Toys"R"Us, Canada is calling on all 13- or 14-year-old Canadian boys and
girls to apply through an online video submission. Interested
candidates should record a short two-minute video stating why they
should be the next Chief Play Officer by discussing their favourite
toys and games. All eligible videos will be evaluated on their
originality, creativity and enthusiasm. Up to 10 finalists will be
brought to Toronto for an in-person interview and audition with a panel
of judges. The winner will be awarded a one-year contract as Toys"R"Us
Canada's Chief Play Officer.
"We want to give every kid the opportunity to show us they have what it
takes to excel in this extraordinary job," said Liz MacDonald,
vice-president of marketing and store planning, Toys"R"Us, Canada. "At
Toys"R"Us, we love kids, and we're excited to see what our country's
talented youth have to offer and the fun that will inevitably come out
of this process."
The next Chief Play Officer can expect a year full of play and new
experiences. Social media blogging, television appearances across the
country, walking in Toronto's Santa Claus Parade and attending other
consumer events are among the expected duties and experiences that
await the next Chief Play Officer. And, to help the next CPO become a
true expert on toys they'll have the opportunity to attend toy training
sessions with toy manufacturers and receive regular deliveries of the
newest, hottest toys.
For the next Chief Play Officer, Toys"R"Us Canada is looking for a young
individual who is comfortable in front of the camera, professional, and
above all, loves toys and play. Videos will be accepted through Sunday,
May 29, 2011 at 11:59 p.m. EST at www.toysrus.ca/cposearch. See website for rules, regulations and a special message from
outgoing Chief Play Officer Daniel Wilson.
