The following is a letter sent by Chief Ghislain Picard to the leader of the ADQ, Gérard Deltell

WENDAKE, QC, Nov. 10, 2011 /CNW Telbec/ -

Mr. Gérard Deltell

Dear Sir,

With great interest and especially astonishment, I have followed the evolution of the headlines since the appearance of your deputy, Mr. François Bonnardel, who attacked the governance of the community of Ekuanitshit in the context of an agreement that the community is party to. In this regard, Mr. Bonnardel addressed a reality that none can deny, but for which the leaders invest a lot of energy and resources that are extremely limited. As we try to work beyond victimization by fostering the self-esteem of our members, you took it one step further by legitimizing the comments made by your deputy.

A gesture that would have undoubtedly contributed to reflect a minimum amount of respect, or even a political sensitivity that your deputy seems to be lacking, would have been to communicate with the authorities of the community of Ekuanitshit, before expressing an opinion for the sole purpose of political gain by discrediting an entire Nation. Forgive my lack of surprise. You are merely following in your predecessor's footsteps by resorting to the same trick used during the leaders' debate that took place preceding the spring 2007 elections, by generalizing and extending the contraband bootlegging status to all of the members of our Nations.

The most troubling aspect of this affair, is that you, as the leader of the Action démocratique du Québec, did not deem it necessary to intervene and remind an elected member of your party regarding a conduct that is obviously not appropriate for a member of the Assemblée nationale. The fact that you decided that such an unfortunate incident did not need to be addressed certainly fosters doubt regarding your leadership, particularly for someone who aspires to lead Quebec.

In my opinion, the only honourable course of action to be taken under these circumstances is to ask Mr. Bonnardel to apologize for his behaviour that is unworthy of an elected official to the Innu Nation, to the community of Ekuanitshit and its Chief, Mr. Jean-Charles Piétacho.
