MONTREAL, April 6 /CNW Telbec/ - The Association of Employees of
Northern Quebec (AENQ-CSQ) denounces, in spite of his excuses, the
remarks of Mr. Yvon Lévesque departing member of parliament of the Bloc
Quebecois. The AENQ-CSQ deplores the clumsiness of Mr. Lévesque's
remarks and wishes to underline that, in spite of his intentions, Mr.
Lévesque raised doubts about his wish to or capacity to represent the
majority of electors in the federal county of Abitibi - Baie James -
Nunavik - Eeyou, that is to say the Cree and the Inuit.
The President of the AENQ, Mr. Patrick D'Astous, made the following
important clafirication: "It would be contrary to the interests of our
members to support the candidacy of Mr. Lévesque in the circumstances."
"It is unfortunate but Mr. Lévesque's actions and words in this campaign
send us back to a bygone era in relations with native peoples."
