The Canadian Public Relations Society Elects New National President

TORONTO, June 25, 2012 /CNW/ - The Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) is pleased to announce Richard Truscott, APR, Director of Provincial Affairs, Canadian Federation of Independent Business (Calgary), was elected national president of CPRS during the Society's 2012 Annual General Meeting in Victoria, B.C. on June 10.

Sean Kelly APR, FCPRS, Manager of Public Relations, Canada-Newfoundland & Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board (St. John's) was elected as vice-president and treasurer. Joining the National Executive Committee this year as vice-president and corporate secretary is Lucie-Anne Fabien APR, FCPRS, Conseillère en communications, Ville de Montréal (Montréal). Past president Pierrette Leonard APR, FCPRS, Senior Advisor, Canadian Patient Safety Institute (Ottawa) will remain on the Board of Directors for another year.

"After making a career in public relations and spending the last several years as a board member, it's an absolute privilege to have the opportunity to represent the Society at the highest level," said Truscott. "In the coming year I look forward to doing what I can to  support CPRS and give back to the public relations profession."

Newly elected to the CPRS Board of Directors this year are Joanne Fortin APR, FCPRS (Montreal) and Jane Petricic, APR (Ottawa). Returning members of the board include: Robert W. Ellis APR, FCPRS, L.M (Regina), Mark Giles, APR (Port Hope), Reneé McCloskey, APR (Prince George), Angela Murray (Halifax), Rashpal Rai (Burnaby) and Sandra Thornton APR, FCPRS (Edmonton).

"Like many professional organizations, CPRS is a strong association of practitioners from across Canada who are dedicated to their careers and the public relations industry in general. I have a keen interest in promoting the growth of this network of professionals. As CPRS expands, more practitioners throughout Canada will benefit from what our National Society has to offer," added Truscott.

One way the CPRS aims to increase membership is by attracting recent graduates from the many public relations programs now offered in Canada. The new Affiliate membership category is designed for graduates and entry-level professionals with less than two years of work experience who can join CPRS at a fifty per cent discount for a maximum period of two years.
