Steelworkers Vote on Tentative Deal With Teck Coal

SPARWOOD, BC, April 6 /CNW/ - More than 700 members of the United Steelworkers (USW) are eligible to vote today and tomorrow on a tentative contract settlement aimed at ending a nine-week strike at Teck Coal's Elkview operations.

Terms of the tentative agreement between USW Local 9346 and Teck Coal are not being publicly released until union members are able to review the document.

Results of the ratification vote are expected to be available Thursday night.

The USW Local 9346 members voted against a previous tentative agreement in March. The workers have been on strike since January 30 of this year. Their previous collective agreement expired on October 31, 2010.
