"As part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability, we are
implementing a number of energy-savings initiatives in our stores
across Nova Scotia," comments Cindy Stevens, VP Marketing, Sobeys
Atlantic. "These initiatives help us reduce our energy consumption and
we want to help our customers do the same."
Since 2008, Sobeys has significantly reduced its carbon footprint in
Atlantic Canada; comparable to taking more than 3,700 cars off the
road. In 2010 alone, Sobeys stores across the Atlantic region reduced
their electricity consumption by more than 17 million kWh/year.
"Sobeys' commitment to energy savings in their stores is impressive, and
they are leading the way for all Nova Scotians to achieve the energy
conservation goals set for the Province," says Allan Crandlemire, CEO
of Efficiency Nova Scotia. "The energy re-fits in their stores,
combined with the new technology they are using in lighting and
refrigeration, are setting the bar high for businesses here. We are
proud to partner with them on this initiative that extends the
company's commitment to sustainability to their customers as well."
Residents are encouraged to change their bulbs today as the end to
daylight savings approaches. A website set up by Efficiency Nova Scotia
