The First Smartphone Powered by Android 2.3, Gingerbread, with improved
user interface, world's first Contour Display, Super AMOLED screen and
MISSISSAUGA, ON, April 14 /CNW/ - Samsung Mobile, the leading mobile
phone brand in Canada, today announced the availability of Nexus S™ by
Google™, the world's first smartphone to feature the latest version of
the Android™ platform for smartphones. Powered by Android 2.3,
Gingerbread, Samsung and Google have packed Nexus S with powerful
technology and the latest in hardware features.
Nexus S is designed with Samsung's brilliant Super AMOLED touch screen
technology providing a premium viewing experience. The 4-inch Contour
Display features a curved design for a more ergonomic style and feel
when held to the user's face. With the Super AMOLED screen, users
experience 75% less glare than on other smartphone displays when using
the device outside so videos, pictures and games look their best and
the sun won't wash them out.
"The addition of Nexus S to the Samsung mobile line-up reinforces the
company's ongoing commitment to offering new and innovative mobile
experiences to Canadian consumers," said Paul Brannen, vice president,
Samsung Mobile Canada. "The ongoing collaboration between Samsung and
Google has resulted in a device that has both superior functionality
and a stunning user-experience."
Nexus S is equipped with a 5 megapixel rear facing camera and camcorder,
as well as a front facing camera. In addition, Nexus S features a
gyroscope sensor to provide a smooth, fluid gaming experience when the
user is tilting the device up or down or panning the phone to the left
or right. Nexus S also comes with 16 GB of internal memory.
Nexus S also features Near Field Communication (NFC) technology that can
read information from "smart" tags, or everyday objects that have NFC
chips in them. These can be anything from stickers and movie posters to
t-shirts. NFC also allows users to exchange information such as
contacts by touching their phones together.
Android 2.3, Gingerbread, is the fastest version of Android for
smartphones. It features a new and improved keyboard with multi-touch
support, Internet calling (VoIP/SIP support), and a clean new user
interface. Nexus S also includes popular Android features such as
portable Wi-Fi hotspot, true multitasking, access to Google mobile
services such as Google Search™, Gmail™, Google Maps™ with Navigation,
Voice Actions, and YouTube™, and access to more than150,000 apps and
games on Android Market™. Powered by a 1 GHz Samsung application
processor, Nexus S produces rich graphics, faster upload and download
times and supports HD-like multimedia content.
Nexus S by Google can be purchased (unlocked) online and in-store from
Best Buy, Future Shop and most wireless carriers nationally.
