Ricoh and WestJet partner to champion sustainability through "Acts of Green" Community programs
MISSISSAUGA, ON, Sept. 13, 2012 /CNW/ - Ricoh Canada Inc., in partnership with WestJet, today announced the kick off of "Acts of Green" - a community focused tree planting and clean-up drive set to target a number of communities across the country this September.
The program, which strives to underscore the fact that sustainability must be more than just an important corporate ideal, marks the second time the two companies have run programs in Mississauga and BC, and the fourth time they have collaborated in Calgary.
David Armstrong, VP of Marketing at Ricoh Canada, believes the program is about tightly connecting staff to Ricoh's longstanding environmental commitments. "We do a great job on the technology side - manufacturing products in a highly sustainable way and ensuring their operation follows the same principals - but it's hard to beat the impact of real people putting in time and effort inside local communities; sustainability has to exist as an activity, not just a philosophy."
"We're pleased to partner with Ricoh Canada with the "Acts of Green" initiative," said Mike McNaney, WestJet Vice-President, Environmental and Regulatory Affairs. "As an organization, we share a commitment to the environment through investments in technology and infrastructure that mitigate the environmental footprint of our air and ground operations. A program like this aligns with our corporate culture and provides opportunities for WestJetters to show they care in the communities where they live and work."
During September, the "Acts of Green" program will be visiting Nose Hill Park in Calgary, Victory Park in Mississauga, and will participate in the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup at sites in Kelowna, Victoria, Prince George and Vancouver. These kinds of commitments contribute to Ricoh being once again recognized as an environmental leader, with its inclusion in the "Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World" for the eighth consecutive year.
