KIRKLAND, QC, May 4 /CNW Telbec/ - On the eve of the Quebec Sports and
Physical Activity Day, Pfizer Canada is pleased to promote healthy
lifestyle habits among its employees by organizing a day dedicated to
physical activity and by welcoming, at its Kirkland head office, Mr.
Pierre Lavoie and the Grand défi Pierre Lavoie Vehicube.
For the sixth year in a row, Pfizer Canada is partnering with the
provincial government in Quebec Sports and Physical Activity Day as
part of the healthy life habits and quality of life improvement
campaign "Au Québec on aime la vie".
"Pfizer Canada, a company in the healthcare sector, wants to help
Canadians live healthier lives, regardless of their age. This is why
Pfizer Canada helps promote healthy habits among Quebecers by
supporting events and organizations pursuing this goal," says Paul
Lévesque, Pfizer Canada's president.
In addition to being a Quebec Sports and Physical Activity Day partner,
Pfizer Canada is once again delighted to be a major partner in the
1,000-km Grand défi Pierre Lavoie event. During its own sports day, the pharmaceutical leader will make
an additional donation of $5.00 for each kilometre cycled or walked by
its employees in its 3,000-km Challenge organized for the occasion, up
to a maximum of $15,000.
"I'd like to call attention to the initiative and the huge amount of
work done by Pierre Lavoie, who, day after day, works on developing
healthy life habits in young people and, through a ripple effect, in
their parents. In the spirit of its corporate philosophy, which is that
it takes more than medication to be truly healthy, Pfizer Canada is donating a total of $2 million
over 5 years to the Grand défi Pierre Lavoie," says Lévesque.
Throughout the day, Pfizer employees will do their share and rack up
kilometres by cycling on a set of stationary bicycles, by participating
in a bicycle route or by walking with pedometers, which will be
distributed to them.
"Pfizer Canada is setting an example for Quebec companies to follow with
regard to promoting healthy life habits in the workplace. We salute the
initiatives set up by this model company to promote physical activity
in the workplace. This is why we are once again delighted to have
Pfizer as one of our major partners, and we congratulate them for their
commitment to the Quebec Sports and Physical Activity Day," says

ABOUT THE GRAND DÉFI PIERRE LAVOIE
In November 2008, the Grand défi Pierre Lavoie hit Quebec's roads with an ambitious goal: to create the largest
health-related happening ever organized in this province and, possibly,
in the rest of the country. An initiative of the not-for-profit
organization Go le Grand défi, this unique and unifying event is aimed at developing healthy life
habits in young people, and, through a ripple effect, in their parents.
