TORONTO, Sept. 14, 2011 /CNW Telbec/ - Experience a taste of Greece when
Oikos Greek Yogurt from Danone hits supermarkets across Canada this
month. A delight for the senses, the thick, creamy yogurt is available
in a variety of flavours and is available in an organic fat-free and a
regular 2% low-fat version. Enjoy Oikos as a healthy snack on its own
or incorporate it into your meals to add some Mediterranean flare!
Setting Oikos apart from other Greek yogurts is the authenticity with
which it is made. While competing brands of "Greek-style" yogurt owe
their consistency to the addition of thickening agents, the rich,
smooth texture and unique tangy taste of Oikos Greek yogurt is a result
of a careful straining method inspired by Greek tradition. The process
requires three times as much milk as is found in regular yogurt,
yielding a dense product that is high in protein. Made from just three
ingredients: milk, cream, and active culture, protein-packed Oikos is
a health-conscious choice. Each 175 gram serving contains between 13
and 17 grams of protein—double the amount in regular yogurt, with a low
fat content that does not sacrifice flavour. In fact, eight out of ten
people preferred the taste of Oikos to other Greek yogurts in a
Oikos yogurt is available in two formats: 4 x 100g single-serving,
fruit-bottom cups in blueberry, strawberry, and honey flavours; and in
500g tubs in both plain and vanilla flavours. Ideal as a snack or for
breakfast, the creaminess of Oikos also lends itself well to dessert.
Greeks use yogurt in a multitude of savoury dishes as well, so
experiment with Oikos as a healthier alternative to cream, sour cream
and even mayonnaise in every day cooking. Inventive chefs will also
find ways to incorporate Oikos into a wide range of recipes.
