Don McBain, Executive Director of Ontario Aboriginal Housing Services, Recognized for Outstanding Leadership

TORONTO, Nov. 3, 2011 /CNW/ - Don McBain, Executive Director of Ontario Aboriginal Housing Services was recognized for excellence in leadership by the Ontario Non-Profit Housing Association (ONPHA) on October 29, 2011.

The Sybil Frenette Outstanding Leadership Award is part of ONPHA's annual awards program recognizing leadership and celebrating success in Ontario's non-profit housing sector. Made possible through the generous sponsorship of Yardi Systems Inc., this annual award honours an individual whose energy and vision contributes to the cause of non-profit housing in Ontario.

"Don McBain's work is creating positive change for thousands of individuals and families across Ontario," says Sylvia Patterson, President of ONPHA. "His dedication is helping to make Aboriginal control over Aboriginal resources a reality, with the development of housing programs delivered to the Aboriginal community, by an Aboriginal organization, utilizing the skill and talent of Aboriginal professionals."

More than 400,000 people in Ontario rely on community-based affordable housing, including: seniors, low-income families with children, the working poor, victims of violence and abuse, people living with developmental disabilities, mental illness, HIV/AIDS or addictions and the formerly homeless/hard-to-house. For over 20 years, ONPHA has been the voice of non-profit housing in Ontario.  Founded in 1988, ONPHA unites 760 non-profit organizations providing housing in 220 communities across Ontario.

ABOUT THE ONPHA AWARDS:

The awards were announced during the 23rd annual Ontario Non-Profit Housing Association (ONPHA) Conference and Trade Show from October 28-30th.  Since 1997, many individuals and non-profits have been recognized for their contributions to the sector.  There are many more that deserve to be recognized and rewarded for their dedication to, and support of, non-profit housing and healthy communities.
