OTTAWA, Nov. 16, 2011 /CNW/ - (Unceded Algonquin Land) - Occupy Ottawa and allies are joining a
"Global Day of Action" on November 17th to mark two months since Occupy
Wall Street began in Manhattan. Participants are being asked to meet at
Confederation Park (Elgin and Laurier) at 11 am and participate in a
number of different events.
"We will be acting to promote economic and social justice" said Arun
Smith, an Occupy Ottawa protester.
Protesters will be discussing places to demonstrate, including
Parliament Hill. Events planned for the 17th include a labour rally and
barbeque in support of Novotel workers at noon as well as a teach-in at
Carleton University at 3 pm.
After the demonstrations, a meal will be provided by the Food committee
at Confederation Park.
"For too long, we've been divided as the rich have become richer and as
power has become increasingly concentrated in the hands of the few"
"Occupy Ottawa stands in solidarity with Occupy Wall Street and other
peaceful protests that are resisting the greed that is destroying our
world. You can't evict an idea whose time has come."
