DARTMOUTH, NS, May 31, 2011 /CNW/ - The Nova Scotia School Boards
Association (NSSBA) elected their 2011-12 executive at the
association's 57th annual general meeting, held in Digby N.S., May 26-28, 2011. Over 70
delegates attended the conference, hosted by the Tri-County Regional
Vic Fleury of the Annapolis Valley Regional School Board was elected
president for the second consecutive year. His duties will include
chairing the board of directors and being an ex-officio member of all
Joining Fleury on the executive will be Ron Marks, past president,
Chignecto-Central Regional School Board; George Kehoe, first vice
president, Strait Regional School Board; Jamie Stevens, second vice
president, Chignecto-Central Regional School Board and Gin Yee,
treasurer, Halifax Regional School Board.
The conference featured keynote speaker Dr. Ivar Mendez, world renowned
neurologist, innovator, educator and philanthropist. Dr. Mendez'
address provided a motivational and inspiring look at how technology is
changing the way health care is provided, and gave school boards a
clear illustration of the types of tools that today's students will be
using in tomorrow's workplace. His talk reinforced the important work
the NSSBA and other education partners are doing in developing a vision
for 21st-century education in Nova Scotia.
The NSSBA is the provincial voice for school boards.
