North West Upgrading Appoints Thomas Ebbern to Core Executive Team
Chief Financial Officer Hired to Enhance Corporate Management Group
CALGARY, Jan. 9, 2012 /CNW/ - North West Upgrading Inc. (NWU) announced today the appointment of Thomas Ebbern to their core executive team as Chief Financial Officer of NWU. Mr. Ebbern will use his extensive financial management experience in the energy industry to strategically position NWU as an international leader in bitumen refining.
In 2011 North West Upgrading entered into a joint venture partnership with Canadian Natural Resources Limited called North West Redwater Partnership (NWR). This partnership will build, manage and operate a new bitumen refinery in Alberta's Industrial Heartland, allowing NWR to produce high value products for local and international markets.
In his new position, Mr. Ebbern will be responsible for liaising with the investment community on behalf of NWU as well as managing relationships with investors, banks, rating agencies and government entities. Mr. Ebbern will also serve as a key member of the NWR Management Committee which will set the overall direction for NWR.

In the past Mr. Ebbern has utilized his investment research expertise to expand and advance leading oil and gas organizations including Macquarie Tristone and TD Newcrest Capital Inc. He also serves on the board of Nexen Inc. and the Advisory boards of Wellspring Calgary, Palisade Capital Management, and Kootenay Capital Management.
"Mr. Ebbern brings more than 30 years of oil and gas and financial experience to NWU," said Ian MacGregor, Chairman of NWU. "We are confident that his knowledge will complement our experienced management team.
Mr. Ebbern holds a Bachelor of Science in Geological Engineering from Queens University and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario.

North West Upgrading is building the world's first bitumen refinery which combines gasification technology with an integrated carbon capture and storage solution. The project, which will be located 45 km north-east of Edmonton, is also the first bitumen refinery to sell its CO2 for the purposes of enhanced oil recovery. NWU is converting 150,000 barrels of bitumen directly to fuels and other high value, low sulphur products required in the Alberta market. The process is also optimized to minimize the environmental footprint of the facility and make the bitumen upgrading/refining process sustainable in Alberta.
