New National Electrical Safety Organization Launched --

Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI) - Canada
to Unite Efforts to Educate and Protect

MISSISSAUGA, ON, Sept. 12, 2011 /CNW/ - The ESFI-Canada was officially launched by ESFI Chairman of the Board, David Tallman, and ESFI-Canada Chair, Peter Marcucci on September 9, 2011.   The new non-profit Canadian organization is dedicated exclusively to promoting electrical safety.

ESFI-Canada will leverage the achievements of ESFI over the last sixteen years in the U.S., including sponsorship of National Electrical Safety Month each May.  ESFI-Canada will engage in public education campaigns to prevent electrical fires, injuries, and fatalities.  Its first campaign is planned for later this fall.

ESFI-Canada's founding organizations are the Canadian Standards Association, Electrical Safety Authority, Electro-Federation Canada, Howe Brand Communications, Sonepar Canada, Thomas & Betts Limited, Underwriters Laboratories of Canada, British Columbia Safety Authority and Electrical Contractors Association of BC.   The establishment of ESFI-Canada brings together organizations with different businesses and mandates but which share an interest in improving electrical safety in Canada and throughout the world.  ESFI-Canada continues to welcome electrical safety stakeholders and other like-minded organizations.

"By uniting the efforts of many Canadian organizations interested in improving electrical safety, we can speed advancements and achievements nationally," said Peter Marcucci, Chair, ESFI-Canada and Chief Public Safety Officer, Electrical Safety Authority.  "What we can do together will always be more powerful than what any of us can achieve individually."

"We're very pleased that ESFI will now have a greater presence in Canada," said David Tallman, ESFI Chairman of the Board and Vice President, Americas Marketing, Eaton Corporation. "In 2009, ESFI Mexico was launched so with today's launch of ESFI-Canada we now have the ability to directly impact the safety of all residents of North America.  While each ESFI affiliate will focus on addressing the unique needs of its own country, we share the common mission of reducing electrically-related fatalities, injuries and property loss worldwide."

ESFI Canada is a non-profit organization with an elected Board of Directors.
