OTTAWA, Sept. 7, 2011 /CNW/ - The Canadian Gas Association (CGA) today
applauded the Federal government's announcement of support for new
ecoENERGY Efficiency initiatives.
The ecoENERGY Efficiency program is investing $78 million between 2011
and 2013 to maintain the Government of Canada's momentum to improve
energy efficiency in Canada. These efforts will make energy
performance more visible and will also improve energy efficiency in
buildings, industries, vehicles and consumer appliances.
"Today's announcement recognizes that energy efficiency starts at homes
and businesses across the country," said Timothy Egan, President of
CGA. "Natural gas utilities strongly support energy efficiency
initiatives, and with today's low prices we believe natural gas is a
smart environmental and economic choice."
Natural gas currently accounts for approximately 30 per cent of Canada's
primary energy consumption and is used in household appliances such as
home furnaces, natural gas stoves, hot water heaters, gas fireplaces
and laundry dryers.
Natural gas is also used for power generation in Canada, and is an
emerging alternative to diesel to fuel heavy duty transport and
