National Police Oversight Conference to be held in Canmore, Alberta

CANMORE, AB, May 27, 2011 /CNW/ - The Canadian Association of Civilian Oversight of Law Enforcement (CACOLE), whose diverse membership includes Municipal, Provincial and Federal Police oversight bodies, investigation units, non-governmental civil rights and justice organizations, First Nations, civilian police boards and police associations—as well as international counterparts from around the world—will hold its annual conference in Canmore, Alberta, on Monday, May 30 through Wednesday, June 1. 

The overall theme of this year's conference is: "Civilian Oversight: Are we making a difference?"

As is the tradition of this annual forum, speakers and panelists—drawn from across the country and overseas—will tackle key touchstone policing and oversight issues. Topics include the "Blue Code of Silence," aboriginal policing, the handling of mental health issues, military policing, the Toronto G20 and defining police "misconduct."
