Venue: Canadian War Museum in Ottawa
TORONTO, Feb. 23 /CNW/ - The country's top prizes for journalism will be
handed out during the 62nd National Newspaper Awards ceremony in Ottawa
on Friday, May 13.
The event is being held in the LeBreton Gallery in the fabulous Canadian
War Museum, a most unique and, some might say, appropriate venue in
A special National Newspaper Awards Governors' Award will be presented
to the Associated Press's award-winning Afghanistan-based journalist
Kathy Gannon, a Canadian from Timmins, Ontario.
The event is expected to attract a large contingent of publishers,
editors, and journalists as well as corporations and people with a
special affinity toward in newspapers.
Our emcees will be two of the most respected journalists in Canada,
political columnist Chantal Hébert of the Toronto Star, and Robert Russo, Ottawa bureau chief for The Canadian Press.
The gala will be a fast-paced and entertaining evening to honour the
finalists in each of the 22 award categories. Each of the finalists
will be introduced in video form and the surprise winner of each will
Prominent newspaper personalities, including war correspondents from the
past and present, will serve as presenters of the awards.
At the museum's official 6 p.m. close to the public, the NNA host
reception will begin in the museum's foyer. The awards banquet will
begin at 7 p.m. in the LeBreton Gallery, which houses dozens of
historic military vehicles and artillery artifacts that can be viewed
during the wrap-up reception following the awards presentations. The
Gallery is a short stroll from the museum's foyer.
Tickets for the NNA awards show and banquet are $180 each, plus HST
($203.40). Tables of 8 can be purchased for $1,440, plus 13% GST
