TORONTO, Sept. 15, 2011 /CNW/ - Myplanet is pleased to announce the
launch of a Fellowship Program that will allow students to earn money
while gaining valuable industry experience. Three unique Fellowships
will be available for students studying software development, digital
design or business.
"The Fellowship program is novel in the technology industry. We're
bringing the apprenticeship model to undergraduate students, allowing
them to earn money while in school to learn valuable skills and work on
real business issues," said Dustin Walper, a Partner at Myplanet. "By
working with professors and administrators at Ontario's top
universities and colleges, we can help bridge the skills gap and
enhance existing internship programs."
Myplanet wanted to look at education in a new way, bringing real-world
technical and business challenges into academic programs. The goal is
to provide students an opportunity to work part-time during academic
semesters on challenges that complement their coursework or design
For Max Brodie, "the questions to consider were: Job, or lifestyle?
Co-workers or friends? Myplanet was a platform that let me reach new
heights in my education." Brodie, a Knowledge Integration student at
Waterloo and former co-op at Myplanet continued, "As an entrepreneur
and a student, Myplanet was formative in my startup education."
The Fellowship Program will welcome 10 Fellows this year. Individuals
who successfully complete the program while maintaining academic
excellence will be invited to join as full-time or co-op team members.
"We wanted to bring the every day business and technical challenges
that we face to students who will deliver new perspectives and
interesting solutions," said Walper. "We are excited about the
opportunity that it brings to students as well as being able to provide
our clients with a more robust pool of experience and ideas!"
