Monique Jérôme-Forget and Michel Lespérance: new members of the IRCM Board of Directors

MONTREAL, June 16, 2011 /CNW Telbec/ - Monique Jérôme-Forget and Michel Lespérance join the Board of Directors at the Institut de recherches cliniques de Montréal (IRCM). Their appointments were confirmed earlier this week at the annual general assembly of IRCM members.

"The IRCM is proud to welcome Mrs. Jérôme-Forget and Mr. Lespérance," said Mrs. Lambert-Lagacé, newly-appointed Chairwoman of the Board. "Their substantial expertise and their knowledge of business, government and academia represent an important contribution to our institute."

"We are happy to join the IRCM's Board of Directors and to collaborate with its other members in the Institut's advancement," added Mrs. Jérôme-Forget and Mr. Lespérance at the assembly. "We believe that health research is more important than ever in today's society. We hope that our participation will allow the IRCM to remain one of the leading higher-learning institutions in the country."

About Monique Jérôme-Forget
An important figure on Quebec's political scene, Monique Jérôme-Forget was a Member of the National Assembly from 1998 to 2009, and served as Minister of Finance, Minister of Government Services, and President of the Treasury Board. In addition, she has been Vice Rector at Concordia University, Assistant Deputy Minister of Health and Welfare Canada, President and CEO of the Commission de la santé et de la sécurité du travail and Chair of its related research institute.

She has been active with a number of community, cultural, medical and educational organizations for several years. She has also been President of the Institute for Research on Public Policy, as well as a columnist for The Financial Post and Les Affaires. She is currently Special Advisor at Osler.

About Michel Lespérance
Lawyer and member of the Québec Bar since 1967, Michel Lespérance pursued his career at the Université de Montréal, where he was assistant Secretary-General, assistant to the Vice-Rector of administration, and Secretary-General of the university. He retired in 2005 and was appointed Secretary-General Emeritus of the Université in April 2008.

Throughout his career, Mr. Lespérance served on the several Boards of Directors, including that of the École Polytechnique de Montréal, the CÉGEP de Saint-Laurent and the Caisse populaire Côte-des-Neiges. He is Secretary of the Advisory Board for the Autorité des marches financiers and has been a member of several associations, such as the National Association of College and University Attorneys and the Groupement international des secrétaires généraux des universités francophones.

About the Institut de recherches cliniques de Montréal (IRCM)
Founded in 1967, the IRCM (www.ircm.qc.ca) is currently comprised of 35 research units in various fields, namely immunity and viral infections, cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, cancer, neurobiology and development, systems biology and medicinal chemistry. It also houses three specialized research clinics, seven core facilities and two research platforms with state-of-the-art equipment.
