Media Release - Centennial College Leads in Nationally Accredited Engineering Technician and Technology Programs

TORONTO, Sept. 8, 2011 /CNW/ - Centennial College continues to dominate the Ontario college sector in its commitment to offer the largest number of nationally accredited programs in Engineering Technology and Applied Science disciplines.

On September 1, 2011, the Canadian Technology Accreditation Board (CTAB) granted national accreditation to four of the Information Technology programs at Centennial College's School of Engineering Technology and Applied Science. This brings the total number of CTAB accredited programs offered by Centennial to 21.

"Centennial College applies quality standards through rigorous program evaluation tools and continues to earn the highest number of external accreditations for our programs," says President Ann Buller. "We are committed to preparing people for the new world that awaits by offering students programs with national accreditation that is portable across the country and internationally. Accreditation makes it easier for students to complete their certification and to gain employment in these disciplines."

"National accreditation means that our graduates meet all the academic requirements for certification by the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) and other similar certifying associations across the country," adds Jag Mohan, Dean of the School of Engineering Technology and Applied Science. "In addition, those graduates who successfully complete a year of co-op as part of their study in accredited programs will be credited with one year of experience towards certification requirements."

Centennial College also has the largest number of OACETT-certified faculty in a single institution within the college sector in Ontario, demonstrating to students that the professors value the certification for which the students are preparing. The four newly accredited programs are Software Engineering Technician, Software Engineering Technology, Health Informatics Technology, and Software Engineering Technology - Interactive. The programs were part of the dual accreditation pilot initiative between CTAB and Canadian Information Processing Society (CIPS).
