Visit Uncle Tom's Cabin Historic Site and learn about the achievements of early Black settlers in Ontario and their dramatic journey to freedom through the Underground Railroad - told through the life of Josiah Henson, a former slave who escaped to Canada.

This year, Uncle Tom's Cabin Historic Site celebrates the International Year for People of African Descent. Another highlight of the season is the annual Emancipation Day Celebration - commemorating the end of slavery in the British Empire. This year, it will be held on Saturday, July 30. The interactive day of activities features traditional African music, storytelling, lectures and African-Canadian cuisine. Everyone is welcome!

Uncle Tom's Cabin is a five-acre museum site, including an interpretive centre, historic buildings, cemeteries and a gift shop. At the interpretive centre, visitors can explore the exhibits I'll Use My Freedom Well and a timeline highlighting world events in North America's rich Black history, take a guided tour of the site and watch a video on the life and legacy of Josiah Henson.

Located in Dresden, approximately three hours west of Toronto, Uncle Tom's Cabin Historic Site is owned and operated by the Ontario Heritage Trust, an agency of the Government of Ontario dedicated to identifying, preserving, protecting and promoting Ontario's heritage.
