BRAMPTON, ON, Feb. 24 /CNW/ - Executive Chairman Galen G. Weston and the
Loblaw Companies Board of Directors are pleased to announce that
Vicente Trius will succeed Allan Leighton as the President of Loblaw
Companies Limited (Loblaw) later this year.
Vicente is a seasoned executive with extensive experience operating
successful retail businesses internationally. He will move to Canada
over the coming months and will join the company in the second half of
the year. He commented, "My family and I are excited to move to
Canada. I have admired Loblaw Companies for many years and I am proud
to become its next President."
At that time, Allan Leighton will step down from the Loblaw Board and
return to his longstanding position as advisor to the Weston family and
Deputy Chairman of George Weston Limited. "We are in the final year of
renewal and I am delighted that Vicente Trius will be my successor. I
will work to ensure a smooth handover to his leadership," said Allan
Galen Weston said, "Vicente is a high calibre executive committed to
building the Loblaw business. He will join us as part of a planned
succession process that included a global search and the establishment
of an appropriate transition period. I very much look forward to
working with him."
Mr. Trius, a 53-year old Spanish national, is joining from Carrefour
where he was Director, Europe and Member of the Group's Executive
Board, in charge of Belgium, Spain, Italy, Poland, Greece, Cyprus and
Romania. Prior to Carrefour, he held senior executive positions at Wal
Mart including Vice-President for International Operations, CEO, Brazil
and CEO Asia and Executive Vice-President and CEO for Latin America.
Mr. Trius has also held senior executive roles at Revco Drug Stores
Inc. and Simago/Dairy Farm International.
