TORONTO, Feb. 28 /CNW/ - Canadian news organizations have less than one
week to apply for the prestigious Excellence in Journalism Award, presented by the Canadian Journalism Foundation. The deadline for
submissions is March 4, 2011.
Applicants must submit a written description explaining how the
organization ensures journalistic excellence in areas of
accuracy/accountability, originality/independence, diversity and
professional development. Submissions should also include specific
examples that illuminate these achievements.
Winners in two categories are selected: 1) small/medium or
local/regional media, and 2) large or national media. Past winners
include the Toronto Star, Winnipeg Free Press and The Canadian Press in the large categories; and Metroland Durham
Region, The Tyee and The Telegram in the small category.
This year's winner will be announced at the CJF 14th Annual Awards Gala to be held at The Fairmont Royal York Hotel on June
7, 2011. As previously announced, Robert MacNeil, legendary political correspondent and co-anchor of the MacNeil/Lehrer Report, will be presented with the CJF Honorary Tribute. Other awards,
including the Lifetime Achievement Award, the Greg Clark Award and the
Tom Hanson Photojournalism Award, will also be presented.
