that team Designated Drivers finished second in the SIRIUS Satellite
Radio Presidents Cup, Manufacturers Challenge, at the 2011 Targa
This prestigious award is reserved for manufacturers who have entered
one or more vehicles in any combination of Grand Touring, Classic,
Modern and Open competitions, and achieved top overall results in all
To the uninitiated, the Targa Newfoundland is a 2,220 kilometre-long
gruelling event that is the equivalent to the Ironman of rally racing.
The Kia Forte Koup, number 99, challenged 61 other tough candidates in
four different classes.
The team raced with the goal of promoting MADD Canada, thus raising
awareness of the dangers of impaired driving and reinforcing the need
to always drive responsibly. To further support this message, the Kia
Koup had been specially wrapped to debut its "I Pledge to drive safe
and sober" campaign. The population of Newfoundland along the way was
invited to sign the vehicle as a pledge to "to drive safe and sober".
This initiative was very well received and visitors were thrilled to
sign the car.
