MONTREAL, Feb. 10 /CNW Telbec/ - Telefilm Canada is delighted to
celebrate the 2011 Jutra nominations, having provided financial support
in different capacities to 23 of the films nominated. Telefilm has been
a partner of la Soirée des Jutra, the Quebec film industry's most
illustrious award, since its inception in 1999.
"It is important to recognize and to celebrate the great success
achieved by Quebec films over the past year," says Carolle Brabant,
Executive Director of Telefilm Canada. "I want to salute the talented
people in the industry who bear testimony to the strength of Quebec
films and who have helped make 2010 an exceptional year."
Incendies, Denis Villeneuve's latest film, leads the pack with ten nominations,
including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Script and Best Actress
nods for both Lubna Azabal and Mélissa Desormeaux-Poulin. Incendies, already a critical success on the international film festival circuit,
was recently nominated for the Oscar® in the Best Foreign Language
Other heavy contenders include Cabotins (dir. Alain DesRochers), La Cité (dir. Kim Nguyen) and Les sept jours du talion (dir. Daniel Grou), with five nominations each, and 10 ½ (dir. Daniel Grou), Les amours imaginaires (dir. Xavier Dolan), Barney's Version (dir. Richard J. Lewis) and La dernière fugue (dir. Léa Pool), each with four nominations.
The 2010 Jutra Awards will also honour Jean Lapointe, unanimously voted
as this year's recipient of the Jutra-Homage award. Jean Lapointe,
having been a part of the audiovisual industry since the 1970s, is an
actor, composer and performer. A lover of art in all its
manifestations, M. Lapointe also co-founded the Musée Marc-Aurèle
Fortin in Montreal.
The 13th annual Jutra Awards will be broadcast from the Théâtre St-Denis in Montreal on Sunday,
