Insurance broker's reaction to Nova Scotia auto reforms

HALIFAX, Nov. 9, 2011 /CNW/ - Insurance Brokers Association (IBANS) supports the direction of the auto insurance reforms announced today and will focus its attention on consumer education.

IBANS was pleased to participate in the review process because its collaborative nature gave stakeholders and consumers the chance to provide input into recommendations, which was positive," said Karen Slaunwhite, executive director, Insurance Brokers Association of Nova Scotia.  "Any changes that benefit the consumer while maintaining fairness, stability and affordability have the full support of Nova Scotia brokers."

Moving forward it will be critical that communication is clear and the message consistent.  IBANS members will do their part to inform consumers of the changes and the potential impacts of these changes. "When legislative changes occur in the insurance industry it is important that educational materials and communication vehicles are well established to ensure consumers are aware of the changes being implemented. With this information consumers can make informed choices and understand what the implications are based on those choices", says Slaunwhite.

IBANS looks forward to working with its members, government, the Superintendent of Insurance's Office and the insurers to develop a comprehensive educational piece which can be used to guide Nova Scotia consumers through the upcoming changes.

Founded in 1949, the Insurance Brokers Association of Nova Scotia is a not-for-profit trade association.
