INNIS & GUNN CANADA DAY 2011 RELEASE CELEBRATES HOMEGROWN ARTISTIC TALENT

DEBORAH COLVIN PAINTING CHOSEN FROM OVER 50 ENQUIRIES TO FEATURE ON SCOTTISH BREWER'S THIRD CANADA DAY BEER

TORONTO, May 24, 2011 /CNW/ - Scottish brewer Innis & Gunn today announced that each bottle of its Limited Edition Canada Day 2011 beer will be packaged in cartons featuring original artwork by Canadian artist Deborah Colvin. First launched three years ago to celebrate the national holiday and to thank the brewer's loyal Canadian fans, the vintage beer has sold out in record time at every release.  Innis & Gunn decided to open a national search to find artwork for its 2011 packaging that would reflect Canada's rich cultural diversity and the 2011 Limited Edition will go on sale by the bottle in May.

"In creating this piece, I drew inspiration from my childhood, and from Canada's geography and natural environment," said artist Deborah Colvin, BFA, SCA. "I wanted this image to truly embody our nation's connection with nature and to highlight the people of Canada's character of endeavour, team spirit and fun."

Specially created for the vintage brew, Deborah's design was chosen from a group of over 50 members who responded from the Society of Canadian Artists - the non-profit artists' organization dedicated to expanding the visibility and stature of visual arts in Canada. The search, which was launched in December 2010, offered members a six-week period to submit their work for consideration.

"We received so many incredible pieces of artwork from the members of the Society of Canadian Artists," said Innis & Gunn international brand manager Nicol Rennie. "Deborah's design was selected for our Canada Day 2011 beer packaging because her vision embodied the country's values and brought light to Canada's contribution to the Innis & Gunn story."

"Canada is the largest export market for Innis & Gunn beer worldwide, and we are constantly overwhelmed by the feedback from our Canadian beer-drinking fans," said Innis & Gunn owner and brewer Dougal Sharp. "For the Innis & Gunn Canada Day 2011 beer we wanted to pay homage to the country that has taken our brand to its heart by releasing not only what we believe to be an extraordinary limited edition brew, but to also - for the first time ever - showcase Canadian artwork on our packaging that truly represents the Canadian spirit."

"We are honoured by the response from this inaugural search and greatly look forward to featuring another Canadian artist in 2012," concluded Dougal Sharp. Later this year, Innis & Gunn will release submission details on their website allowing all Canadian artists the opportunity to be featured on the yearly release of its Limited Edition Canada Day beer.

The Canada Day 2011 beer will be available at fine beer, wine and spirits retailers widely across Canada in very limited quantities, retailing from $4.95.  Customers across the country can enjoy the brew in time for Canada Day celebrations while supplies last.

About Innis & Gunn

Innis & Gunn Oak Aged beer was accidentally discovered and developed by Dougal Sharp in 2003. Initially approached by a Scotch whisky distillery to make a beer-finished whisky, the brewery recognized the exceptional quality of the special beer they created and poured away after seasoning their oak barrels. Using this revolutionary technique of aging beers, the American white oak barrels infuse Innis & Gunn's Original Oak Aged Beer with toffee and vanilla flavours and aromas during a special maturation process. This new category has managed to attract many new drinkers to beer both in the UK and across its six major export markets (Canada, USA, Ireland, Sweden, Norway and Finland). Early last year, Innis & Gunn was named 'Business of the Year' at the annual Scotland Food & Drink Excellence Awards and also became the first Scottish beer company in 22 years to be handed the prestigious Queen's Award for Enterprise.
