The votes are in and 42 per cent of Canadians favour Holiday Shopping
TORONTO, Nov. 14, 2011 /CNW/ - Christmas may be more than a month away,
but retailers will be happy to know that Canadians are ready to shop
for holiday gifts. According to a recent hotels.com® 'Name Your November Holiday' contest, hosted on hotels.com Canada's Facebook page, 42 per cent of Canadians want a Holiday Shopping Day in November.
Grand prize winner Nicole Sweeney from Angus, Ontario was randomly
selected from contest participants to receive a two-night stay at one
of 65,000 welcomerewards™ eligible hotels on hotels.com.
"With Labour Day, Victoria Day, Thanksgiving and many other statutory
holidays throughout the year, hotels.com's 'Name Your November Holiday' contest was a fun and engaging way for
Canadians to choose what they would celebrate if they had a nationwide
day off in November," said Taylor Cole, APR, director of public
relations and social media for hotels.com. "The results clearly show that holiday shopping is top-of-mind this
time of year and Canadians want a day to get it done."
Nearly 900 hotels.com Canada Facebook fans voted on the five proposed
November holidays. Holiday Shopping Day topped the list with 42 per
cent of the votes followed by Hockey Holiday (17 per cent); Snow Tire
Day (15 per cent); Lucy Maud Montgomery Day (14 per cent); and Girls
Only/Boys Only Day (12 per cent).
