Home Hardware Congratulates 'Communities in Bloom' Award Winners

ST. JACOBS, ON, Nov. 2, 2011 /CNW/ - As national sponsor, Home Hardware Stores Limited congratulates the winning communities of this year's 17th annual Communities in Bloom Challenge. The national finalists, and international challenge participants, were announced at the National Awards Ceremony hosted by the National Battlefields Commission in Québec City on October 29.

Communities in Bloom is a Canadian non-profit organization committed to fostering civic pride, environmental responsibility and beautification through community involvement and the challenge of a national program, with focus on the promotion of green spaces in community settings. Participating communities are evaluated by volunteer judges on eight separate criteria: Tidiness, Environmental Action, Heritage Conservation, Urban Forestry, Landscape, Turf & Groundcovers, Floral Displays Community Involvement.

"We are very proud to be a part of Communities in Bloom," said Paul Straus, President and CEO of Home Hardware Stores Limited.  "The organization's commitment to improving the environment in which we live and work aligns with the deep commitment each of our Dealer-Owners have to their communities. On behalf of the Dealer-Owners of more than 1,080 Home Hardware stores across Canada, I congratulate this year's winners on a job well done."

Hundreds of Canadian communities participated in the national and provincial editions of the program, and municipalities from the United States of America, Scotland, England and Japan took part in the International Challenge.

"Communities in Bloom and Home Hardware have enjoyed a wonderful partnership since our organization's earliest years," said Raymond Carrière, Founding President of Communities in Bloom. "We are honoured to partner with Home Dealers across Canada each year to recognize our country's most beautiful communities."
