Stores Limited congratulates the winning communities of this year's 17th annual Communities in Bloom Challenge. The national finalists, and
international challenge participants, were announced at the National
Awards Ceremony hosted by the National Battlefields Commission in
Québec City on October 29.
Communities in Bloom is a Canadian non-profit organization committed to
fostering civic pride, environmental responsibility and beautification
through community involvement and the challenge of a national program,
with focus on the promotion of green spaces in community settings.
Participating communities are evaluated by volunteer judges on eight
separate criteria: Tidiness, Environmental Action, Heritage
Conservation, Urban Forestry, Landscape, Turf & Groundcovers, Floral
Displays Community Involvement.

Hundreds of Canadian communities participated in the national and
provincial editions of the program, and municipalities from the United
States of America, Scotland, England and Japan took part in the
"Communities in Bloom and Home Hardware have enjoyed a wonderful
partnership since our organization's earliest years," said Raymond
Carrière, Founding President of Communities in Bloom. "We are honoured
to partner with Home Dealers across Canada each year to recognize our
country's most beautiful communities."
Winners of this year's Outstanding Achievement Awards include Goderich,
Ontario who was bestowed the Home Hardware Community Involvement Award
and The Municipality of Chatham-Kent who received the Home Hardware
Beauti-Tone Heritage Conservation Award.
The eight communities, who were awarded top honours in their category
(by population) are as follows:
Up to 1,500: Denzil, SK
1,501 to 3,000: Killarney-Turtle Mountain, MB
3,001 to 7,500: Stettler, AB
7,501 to 10,000: New Glasgow, NS
10,001 to 20,000: Summerside, PEI
20,001 to 50,000: Campbell River, BC
Over 50,000: London, ON
Canadian Forces: CFB Petawawa, ON
