VANCOUVER, Nov. 15, 2011 /CNW/ - Members of the B.C. Government and
Service Employees' Union working at Eagle Valley Manor in Sicamous and
Thompson View Manor in Ashcroft ratified new contracts last week.
The contracts, which are both successorship contracts from a previous
contract with InSite Housing Hospitality and Health, included
significant wage increases and additional vacation time.
"We are pleased to have achieved such significant gains for our members
at these two health care facilities," said BCGEU president Darryl
"Seniors deserve dignity and quality care and the way to provide that
for them is by ensuring competitive wages in the sector that attract
and retain skilled health care workers."
Both agreements include an annual wage increase of 4%, increases of the
casual vacation in lieu amount from 4% to 6% and the addition of Easter
Monday as a statutory holiday.
The Eagle Valley Manor contract is a 3-year agreement and the Thompson
View Manor agreement is a 5-year agreement.
Eagle Valley Manor and Thompson View Manor are assisted living
facilities providing seniors' care in the Thompson-Shuswap area. BCGEU
members working there include assisted living coordinators, assisted
living workers, cooks and recreation workers.
