TORONTO, April 13, 2011 /CNW/ - Metrolinx would like to thank GO Transit customers for once again showing their unwavering generosity, this time in support of Japanese relief efforts. On March 29, 2011 at Union Station, GO customers donated an astounding $21,226 in support of the Canadian Red Cross.
More than 20 Metrolinx volunteers together with Red Cross volunteers collected donations at Union Station during the morning and afternoon rush hours.
"The generosity of GO Transit customers and the quick response from the Canadian Red Cross means we've been able to make a significant contribution to relief efforts in Japan, said Bruce McCuaig, President and CEO, Metrolinx. "We have wonderful, generous customers and I want to thank everyone for taking the time to make a donation to this cause."
All donations will go to the Canadian Red Cross and will be used to directly support recovery efforts in Japan. The 8.9 magnitude earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan on March 11 has killed or injured thousands of people.
Your help is appreciated. Last year, GO Transit customers also raised money for earthquake relief efforts in Haiti and Pakistan.
