Global gateway to GDSN enables Canadian healthcare trading partners to
leverage GS1 standards for safer, more cost-effective patient care
TORONTO, May 9, 2011 /CNW/ -- GHX is expanding access to its Health ConneXion(SM) data pool to the Canadian healthcare marketplace in an effort to improve patient care, increase efficiency and reduce costs through accelerated adoption of data standards. GHX made the announcement in conjunction with the 4th Annual National Healthcare Supply Chain Network Conference in Toronto, an educational event that GHX is co-sponsoring to promote best practices in Canadian healthcare supply chain management.
The GHX Health ConneXion data pool is a healthcare-focused data pool certified by GS1's Global Data Synchronization Network (GDSN®). GHX healthcare trading partners can now publish GS1 standard identifiers, including Global Location Numbers (GLNs) for organization and location identification and Global Trade Item Numbers (GTINs) for product identification, to the GDSN and share this data with authorized subscribers within the global network. This capability is important because it helps ensure that all trading partners are transacting with up-to-date product information, resulting in improved data accuracy, fewer errors and ultimately, reduced costs.
"Given the positive and significant impact that data standards have on the healthcare supply chain, we knew it was critical to extend our data pool service to the Canadian market," said Nils Clausen, general manager, GHX Canada. "GHX members are looking for assistance to implement GS1 standards in an efficient and cost-effective manner, and our position with Health ConneXion allows all stakeholders of the Canadian healthcare supply chain to utilize an already-built infrastructure to accomplish their data synchronization goals."
Through the Health ConneXion data pool, healthcare organizations can leverage their existing connection to GHX to more readily participate in the GDSN without significant implementation costs. GHX currently has connectivity with more than 80 percent of licensed beds at hospitals and their key suppliers in the U.S. and Canada, and operates in nine European countries. Healthcare suppliers and providers not integrated to GHX have the option to participate in the Health ConneXion data pool as a standalone service.
Membership in the Health ConneXion has grown steadily since GHX launched the data pool to the U.S. healthcare marketplace in May 2009, with the addition of leading healthcare providers, global manufacturers, distributors and group purchasing organizations.
Global Healthcare Exchange, LLC (GHX) makes healthcare more efficient by delivering software and services that enable both healthcare providers and suppliers to increase efficiency, lower costs and provide better patient care.
