FIRST EDITION OF SAINTE-JUSTINE UHC FOUNDATION URBAN DUATHLON RAISES A RECORD $206,020

MONTREAL, June 8, 2011 /CNW Telbec/ - Earlier today some 92 teams consisting of people from the business and sports communities took part in a BIXI bike and running relay race in downtown Montreal as part of the very first Sainte-Justine UHC Foundation Urban Duathlon. The event - presented by National Bank Financial Group - raised an impressive $206,020 - doubling its target amount - for the benefit of the Sainte-Justine UHC perinatal care unit.

"The fun and friendly Urban Duathlon relay race took over the city today and was a smashing success on every level. We exceeded both our participation and fundraising goals to help the cause of children, a phenomenal result since this is the very first edition of the event," said Sainte-Justine UHC Foundation Urban Duathlon Organizing Committee Chairman François Rivard.

To take part in the Urban Duathlon each team of three participants consisting of two "bixicyclists" and one runner raised at least $750 to register for the event. Participants were eligible to win a trip to Club Med, a pair of tickets to anywhere Porter Airlines flies… plus many other exciting participation prizes.

Three Challenges - Three Jackets

The Urban Duathlon challenges participating teams on three different levels to win the event's coveted "award jackets."

Here are the winning teams for this first edition of the Duathlon:

  1. Team Not So Rocket Science Team won the Yellow Jacket Challenge for raising the most funds by contributing a total of $24 070.
  2. Team High on EPO took home the Green Jacket for finishing the relay race with the fastest time of 28 minutes 44 seconds.
  3. Team GSoft was awarded the Polka Dot Jacket for their funny and original jacket-shirt-and-tie.

This event was made possible thanks to financial support from National Bank Financial Group as well as other generous sponsors and contributors.
