VANCOUVER, April 19 /CNW/ - According to a new report by iData Research
(www.idataresearch.net), the leading global authority in medical device and pharmaceutical
market research, the European cosmetic surgery, facial-aesthetics and
medical laser market recovered in 2010 from the economic recession and
is expected to reach over $1.3 billion by 2017. Growth will be driven
by increased use of facial injectable products, such as botulinum toxin
A and dermal fillers, as well as by the recovery of the aesthetic laser
The report states that the market for injectable facial products
continued to grow through the recession, and has proven to be extremely
popular as a non-surgical alternative to cosmetic surgery. Additional
competitors to Botox® have begun infiltrating the botulinum market, making it potentially one
of the most competitive European aesthetics markets in the coming
years. Growth will also be fueled by increased revenues from the
aesthetic laser and light therapy segment, particularly in Spain and
Germany, which have the largest aesthetic laser markets in Europe.
"The aesthetic laser and light therapy market in Europe was severely
affected by the global credit-crisis in 2009 due to its reliance on
sales of expensive capital equipment," says Dr. Kamran Zamanian, CEO of
iData. "Manufacturers transitioned their business models towards a
greater reliance on service and consumables sales during this period.
Economic recovery will translate into double-digit revenue growth for
an industry that will reach almost $1 billion by 2017."
Additionally, Syneron/Candela was the leading-manufacturer in the
European aesthetic laser market primarily due to its market share of
over 30% in Spain. Cynosure, Lumenis, DEKA, Alma, Asclepion and Palomar
also led laser markets in specific European countries.
Outside of aesthetics, regulatory approval of therapeutic applications
for botulinum toxin is also expected to drive sales, making them a key
part of neuromodulation therapy.
