challenge," says Dr. Patrick Smith about his appointment to CEO of
Renascent and the Renascent Foundation. With this appointment,
Renascent sends a clear signal that it intends to take a bold step
forward within the addictions and mental health field in Toronto and
"Patrick has extensive experience from the frontlines to executive
leadership," says Peter Armstrong, President and Chair of Renascent's
Boards of Directors. "We are looking forward to working with Patrick to
further establish Renascent as the leading abstinence-based alcoholism
and drug addiction treatment provider in the country."
Dr. Smith has worked in various leadership capacities for the Arkansas
Children's Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas, the Centre for Addiction
and Mental Health in Toronto and most recently the BC Mental Health and
Addiction Services of the Provincial Health Services Authority of
British Columbia. He co-led the development of Canada's National
Addictions Treatment Strategy and was project principal for British
Columbia's 10-year Plan for Mental Health and Addictions.

Dr. Smith received his doctorate in clinical psychology from the
University of Nebraska, with a specialization in addiction studies and
a minor in children and families. He studied at the Yale University
School of Medicine, the University of Toronto's Rotman Executive
Programs and was a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Canterbury in
Christchurch, New Zealand. In 2009 and 2004, Dr. Smith joined the
delegation to the United Nations Committee on Narcotic Drugs on behalf
of the Canadian Executive Council on Addictions.
