Pampers Celebrates its 50thBirthday and Father's Day in Toronto and on Facebook

TORONTO, June 16, 2011 /CNW/ - Today, Pampers - the iconic baby care brand that was first to distribute disposable diapers around the globe - is celebrating Father's Day and new dads by partnering with celebrity father of three (and counting) Dean McDermott.

"I am honoured to celebrate 50 years of Pampers and parenting this Father's Day," said Dean McDermott. "Pampers has been a huge part of my children's lives from the hospital, to potty-training and as a father of three, I know that being a parent is one of the most difficult - but most rewarding - jobs in the world and how much support from others counts."

Now in its 50th year, today, Pampers unveiled its Little Miracle Missions program in Canada, which seeks to celebrate, support and protect babies everywhere through acts of kindness to little miracles and their families, while encouraging parents to "pay it forward" and support others. This Father's Day, that means giving first time dads the time to bond with their new babies by helping them out with errands or taking on their chores.

PAMPERS THROUGH THE YEARS

1950s

  • 1956 - Vic Mills assigned researchers at Miami Valley to investigate the practicality of a disposable diaper
  • 1959 - P&G became the first in the world to design a continuous process, diaper manufacturing machine that could produce 150 pads per minute

1960s

  • 1962 - P&G Professional Services hospital program encouraged nurses and paediatric wards to begin using Pampers instead of cloth diapers

1970s

  • 1971 - Pampers with adhesive tapes rolled out, replacing diaper pins, Pampers began globalization with entry into Canada and Japan

1980s

  • 1980 - P&G launched Pampers Custom Quilted, a dryness upgrade in the U.S.
  • 1986 - P&G launched Pampers Ultra - the first diaper to feature a super thin, shaped core with AGM, a granular material that swells in contact with fluid and becomes a gel

1990s

  • 1990 - Pampers Phases were launched in the U.S., providing diapers to meet the developmental needs of a child, from newborn to infant to crawler to toddler
  • 1993 - Pampers Trainers were launched in the U.S., introducing P&G's first pullon diaper

2000s

  • 2010 - Pampers improved Cruisers and Swaddlers with its Dry Max design, which are drier and thinner than Pampers Baby Dry
  • 2011 - Pampers celebrates another milestone - its 50th birthday - and in turn celebrating, supporting and protecting little miracles for 50 years
