Premier Outlines Clean-Energy Vision With Canadian Club Of Toronto
TORONTO, Sept. 22, 2011 /CNW/ - Premier Dalton McGuinty outlined the
Ontario Liberal vision for a new economy during a lunchtime speech to
the Canadian Club of Toronto today.
"We're standing on the edge of a remarkable opportunity," said McGuinty.
"The Ontario Liberal plan to become the number one clean-energy
manufacturer in North America means tens of thousands of good, new jobs
for Ontario families."
Together with the Green Energy Act and FIT (Feed-In-Tariff) program —
which offers stable prices for renewable energy generation — the
Ontario Liberal clean-energy plan has delivered 20,000 new jobs and is
on track to create 50,000 by the end of 2012.
Having faith in the Ontario Liberal Plan, Samsung C&T is investing $7
billion in the Ontario economy and will build four new clean-energy
manufacturing plants in Windsor, London, Tillsonburg and Toronto, which
will produce solar inverters, wind turbines and blades.
"It's the start of a whole new era in Ontario's economic history," said
McGuinty. "One with a new economy based on cleaner, renewable power,
cleaner cars and a host of industries that support that new, exciting
Both opposition parties have said they'd scrap the Ontario Liberal
clean-energy plan, killing the thousands of jobs it's creating. The
Hudak PCs have $14 billion in unfunded giveaways and tax cuts that
would mean deep cuts to hospitals and schools. The Horwath NDP would
introduce a crushing $9 billion in job-killing taxes. Both would take
Ontario off track at the worst time.
"We cannot let anyone take us off track," said McGuinty. "Together, as
Ontarians, we're going to move forward into a clean-energy future that
will power our economy and provide good jobs well into the 21st century."
