CORRECTION - Occupy movement will not go away, says CEP

OTTAWA, Nov. 15, 2011 /CNW/ - One of Canada's largest unions today condemned the Toronto Mayor Rob Ford's decision to evict the Occupy Toronto protesters from St James Park.

"This is not about public safety or other inconveniences but rather about the inconvenient message the occupiers are championing," says Dave Coles, president of the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union.

"This action exposes more clearly than ever the inequality of our capitalist system and makes us more determined than ever to fight for justice. The decision to evict the Occupy Toronto protesters proves the movement is needed now more than ever.

"From the start, the one percent -- the bankers, corporate executives, and politicians - have done all they could to try to silence those who are stand up for the other 99 percent, and we will never let that happen.

"Labour will be out in solidarity with those who have demonstrated with such courage and dedication," says Coles, noting that CEP members who were cheated out of their pensions by Brookfield Management Corporation were among those who took their message about corporate greed to Occupy Toronto.
