Comprehensive website created to encourage the post-secondary student vote this federal election

TORONTO, April 4 /CNW/ - College and college-university students across Ontario will now have access to a federal election website which they can call their own, as the College Student Alliance (CSA) launches itsyourvote.ca. This portal reflects the CSA's belief that Canadian youth should be informed about the upcoming election. It is a means to address voter apathy by providing a youth portal to link students to all of the tools and information needed to vote.

The website was created to encourage the youth vote and allow the youth to make an informed decision. Only 37.4% of 18 to 24-year-olds voted at the 2008 general election, which means that more than 60% of young Canadians did not participate in the election of the government. As of 2010, there were 577,615 students enrolled at colleges and universities across Ontario, which demonstrates the increased importance of the youth vote.

"The federal election has come at a unfavourable time this year as students are writing exams and moving home, but we're hopeful with itsyourvote.ca that college and college-university students will be able to access real-time information," states Justin Fox, President of CSA. "We have also collaborated with other student alliances across Canada to come together and help ensure the youth vote is more prominent. Together we represent 681,000 post-secondary students across Canada."

Itsyourvote.ca provides access to each political party's website, the CSA's federal election platform submission entitled "Shaping Post-Secondary Education in Canada: a College Perspective", and all of the necessary information needed to vote. Social media will play an important part on the website as the CSA will have a live streaming of tweets and comments from individuals across Canada concerned about post-secondary education issues.

The College Student Alliance (CSA) is an advocacy and leadership organization, which has been proudly serving Ontario's college and college-university students since 1975. The CSA currently represents 17 colleges and 25 member councils with over 135,000 full-time student members throughout the province.
