More entertainers and sports figures join in to help Canadians with
TORONTO, May 25, 2011 /CNW/ - Building on the tremendous support
garnered for the Shades of Fun auction on eBay launched in early May,
CNIB is pleased to announce it has released a second wave of shades
from celebrities including actor Rachel McAdams, singer Anne Murray and
hockey icon Wayne Gretzky.
"The generosity and support we've received for this auction been truly
amazing. We started by asking a few celebrities to donate their
sunglasses and the word traveled fast," said Steve Lutz, Vice President
of Fund Development, CNIB. "Shades from stars across North America have
continued to pour in, so we've decided to extend the auction to make
them available to fans."
Open to the public at www.cnib.ca/auctions, the auction is part of CNIB's Shades of Fun campaign, an annual
fundraiser that encourages Canadians from coast to coast to slip on
their sunglasses to protect their eyes from UV damage, and raise funds
to support CNIB services for people with vision loss.
McAdams, Murray and Gretzky are joined in their support of CNIB by 30
additional other entertainers including Chris Potter ("CBC's
Heartland"), Farley Flex ("Canadian Idol"), Muchmusic VJ Jesse
Giddings, supermodel Stacey McKenzie, and musicians Shiloh and Massari.
In addition to Gretzky, other sports figures who have joined the
campaign include baseball icon Fergie Jenkins, Vancouver Whitecaps FC
president Bob Lenarduzzi and Olympic athletes Kristina Groves, Charles
Hamelin, Maëlle Ricker, among others.
Fans can view the full list of participating celebrities and their
sunglasses at www.cnib.ca/auctions. The auction is open to bidders across Canada and around the world and
will run until the end of May. All proceeds will help support CNIB
