Tim Hudak voted against saving CHEO's Cardiac Surgery Program
His $14 billion hole will put children at risk… again
TORONTO, Sept. 19, 2011 /CNW/ - Tim Hudak tried to shut down CHEO's
heart surgery unit once, and he could do it again.
Despite warnings from doctors that children would die in transit to
Toronto, the last PC government, including Tim Hudak at the Cabinet
table, ordered CHEO's heart surgery unit closed. ("CHEO Fears Cuts Will
Kill Children", Ottawa Citizen, May 24, 2002) Hudak's PCs didn't mind
the risk of shipping Eastern Ontario children in need of emergency
heart surgery to Toronto.
The cold heart of Conservative cuts could not have been more clear. The
closure order came from a PC government that pledged not to cut health
care by "one cent" and claimed that health care was a priority.
Now Tim Hudak is doing it again - sitting on a massive $14 billion hole
in his platform, and promising to eliminate Local Health Integration
Networks - the layer of local health care champions in his way - so he
can once again make closure orders from Queen's Park office towers.
We can't trust the cold heart of Conservatives with our health care.
