CHAMPLAIN BRIDGE TO BE AVOIDED: Set-up of the Construction Site from 9 PM to 2 AM on the Night of Friday to Saturday

Major Roadwork towards the South Shore Scheduled from Friday May 27 at 10 PM to Monday May 30 at 5 AM
Three alternatives: Victoria Bridge, Jacques-Cartier Bridge and Honoré-Mercier Bridge

LONGUEUIL, QC, May 27, 2011 /CNW Telbec/ - The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) wishes to remind motorists that major roadwork will be taking place on the Champlain Bridge this weekend from Friday May 27 at 10 PM to Monday May 30 at 5 AM, in order to completely replace expansion joints. During this period, only one lane will be open towards the South Shore and two lanes towards Montreal, and this, during the entire weekend, both during the day and at night.

Set-up of the construction site
Please note that the set-up will necessitate closure of one of three lanes in both directions starting at 9 PM, Friday, May 27 and closure of two of three lanes also in both directions from 10 PM to 2 AM in order to set up the construction site for the weekend. Therefore, there will only be one lane open in each direction from 10 PM, Friday, May 27 to 2 AM, Saturday, May 28. Subsequently the "two lanes open towards Montreal, one lane open towards the South Shore" configuration will be in place until Monday at 5 AM.

Reducing the impact
This major roadwork will have a considerable impact on traffic. Therefore, during this period, it is highly recommended that motorists avoid the Champlain Bridge and use the Jacques-Cartier Bridge, the Victoria Bridge and even the Honoré-Mercier Bridge (except a partial closure on Honoré-Mercier Bridge, from Friday, 10 PM to Saturday, 10 AM, where only one lane will be open in each direction). In fact, the two lanes on the Victoria Bridge will exceptionally be opened southbound from 9 AM to 9 PM on the Saturday and Sunday to counter the closures on the Champlain Bridge. The Jacques-Cartier Bridge will also be able to open three lanes in one direction or the other depending on traffic flow.

Please note that the southbound lane that will be open to traffic on the Champlain Bridge will be narrower than usual, namely 3.3 meters. Trucks exceeding the allowed width will be asked to avoid the Champlain Bridge southbound.

Finally, we would like to remind motorists that this major roadwork will continue throughout the beginning of June, as well as in August and September. To find out about our upcoming spring and summer schedule, please visit: http://bit.ly/mPeTwc.

All efforts have been undertaken to complete the roadwork as quickly and efficiently as possible. Please also note that this roadwork could be rescheduled due to unfavourable weather conditions.
